The green horde

My first games at Warhammer V8 have been catastrophic! My orcs were rolled when they were not simply exterminated. A clash against beasts men ended with a particularly scathing and bloody defeat. There were not even one orc on the table at the end of the 4th turn! My little regiments of 20 orcs have not stood up to the herds of 30 or 40 Gors who rushes over me. Another game against the Skavens saw my left flank completely depressed and my orc lord flee at full speed towards the edge of the table while my giant was eating apples in an isolated forest far away from confrontations!...

Once the basic rules were assimilated, I started to stand up to my opponents but victory still seems to be very far.

The new rule of "Hordes" is particularly interesting and after a few games and tests, I could really see its utility to hold a position and force the opponent to send many troops in order to contain it or to simply deal with it. But most importantly, a horde can hurt very badly. It is therefore a good start to review my new army and adapt it to the new version of the game.

So I collect 2 old units of orcs of 20 figures each to build my new horde. Each green skin is armed with one weapon in each hand. That gives me a potentiel of 40 strikes of strength 4 in the first round of combat! Ouch, that can calm the passions of many. This horde is named the Devastators. Do not ask me why yet...
Regarding the figures they were painted a few years ago (early 2000) and they needed a little refresh. I have not reworked the skin (too long) but I redid the metal by incorporating touches of rust and a few too bright tunics were overshadowed by a wash of Devlan Mud. The stands which were in Goblin Green at the start are now in Graveyard Earth and the whole horde is on a base made with thick cardboard.

More green things soon...
